I confess to you that I haven’t written anything on my blog or book for a couple of weeks. No I’m not lazy or burned out or any of those other things.
I certainly been pretty busy but I’m not using that as an excuse. This is actually the problem for most budding and established writers. Life gets in the way of your aspirations.
So how do you fix this problem?
There are a number of ways you can attack this issue and resolve it.
You can treat your book as an assignement and put a firm deadline to have it completed by and then stick to it.
You can treat it like a job, clock on at the same time each day and write for a fixed period of time until it’s done.
You can get a friend on your side and have them ask you daily what you did yesterday.
You can shut the doors to everybody and just write until it’s done, no matter how long it takes.
Despite these tips the issue still remains and ultimately you still have to sit down in front of the computer your desk or whatever you use to write and put words on screen or paper.
This takes self discipline, determination, stubbornness, persistence or whatever else you need to call it. It has to be done or you’ll never get it published and selling.
You do want to publish and sell your book don’t you? Well? What are you going to do about it? Sit in front of this screen surfing the net doing ‘research’ instead of writing?
Let me share a little secret with you.
Almost none of the thousands of published authors who’s books you can buy and read had their first book published. Most of them didn’t even get their second book published.
They didn’t stop there though, they kept on writing and writing until they got one published. So don’t worry about this first book, get it done so you can get started on the second and third books. Stop aiming for perfection start aiming at completion.
If I waited until I had written the perfect blog post ther probably would be any here yet. None of them are perfect, far from it, many of them are pretty ordinary but they are me writing what I believe to be true about what I and you need to do to get our books published and selling.
I know you have a great book inside you waiting to get out but it probably isn’t the one you’re writing now. THat doesn’t mean you should stop writing this one because you have to complete each book before you can find the next one.
It’s a bit like travelling, you have to follow the path you have chosen and go through each town on the way to your destination. You can’t go half way into a town and then stop or turn back because that won’t get you where you want to be. Even if the town is crappy you still have to go all the way through to even be able to start on the way to the next one.
So complete this book, start the next oen while you are waiting for the publisher to tell you if they want it or not. Self-publish if you want and see how many people want to buy it. Do some marketing if you want but keep writing.
