In several places through the Bearly books site there are half-baked attempts to explain what the site is attempting to achieve and why you should join.

Every time I sit down to write this out I get side tracked with trying to explain how an affiliate program works and I seem to lose the thread of what is really the benefit for you.

This is another attempt so what I would like you to do right now is accept this cup of coffee and sit down in at my kitchen table while I try to get this out right.

Less than 1% of writers who try will ever get published by a publishing house regardless of how good they write. You can check this out by doing a search on Google or any other search engine.

I don’t know what the percentage is of people who would like to write or have written a book who actually try to get a publisher interested in their book but I would be surprised if it is more than about 10%.

This means that there must be 1,000,000s of people out there who either have written or would like to write a book and then stalled when it came to approaching a publisher. There are many possible reasons for this but I suspect that the main one is that they just don’t know how. The second most likely reason would be that they just don’t have the confidence that they have written a book worth reading.

In a nutshell this is the purpose of Bearly Books, the site is a place where you can come and be comfortable in the knowledge that very few if any of the other writers have published anything either. It is not a place where you’ll be made fun of or ridiculed. This is a place like your den where you gather, in front of the open fire and a your favourite beverage, with friends and relations who all want you to do well.

When we review your work it is with the sole aim of helping you improve it.  We don’t edit it for you and Bearly Books isn’t an editorial service.  Just like your mother, father or favourite Aunty would do. Gentle guidance and encouragement is the order of the day. If you look at all the writing I have on this site you can clearly see that I am not the world’s greatest writer and I sometimes have a funny turn of phrase but it is genuinely me.

If you would like to be able to write with fluidity and honesty then you cannot find a more supportive place to practice. Unlike some places where the emphasis is on literary value we at Bearly Books are more interested in how you write rather than what you write about.

Look on the shelves at your local book retailer and you’ll quickly see that most of the books are not literary tomes, mostly they are about life, travel, adventure, how to do things and just plain entertainment. Leave the classics to those who love that and come here to write your “How to grow brilliant tomatoes every year” handbook.
